GREEN SMOOTHIES

I believe that Green Foods are the most healing foods you can put in your body!

I am convinced that my daily green smoothie habit helped me improve my blood sugar control throughout the day, helped me shed a few unwanted pounds, and improved my digestion. I did not invent green smoothies, they are becomingly widely popular and helping people all over the globe lose weight and detoxify their bodies. To learn more about the positive impacts of green smoothies, go the founder of the Green Smoothie Movement’s web site. On this site, there is a great info page including recipes entitled Ode to Green Smoothies that is a great getting started primer.

There are some really creative green smoothie recipes out there that include superfoods that can be hard to find in some parts of the country.  I started simple with no superfoods and still experienced great results by following simple fruit and veggie recipes.  I now add select superfoods to them with great results for a boost,  such as 1-2T bee pollen (immune system booster), soaked chia seeds (great antioxidant, essential fatty acid, fiber, and protein boost), or my favorite: VitaMineral Green powder.

Basic Instructions: Mix 2 parts low-glycemic fruit, 1 part leafy green veggies, 1 part water, 1 part superfood (optional). Blend.

They taste much more like fruit than greens. You can add a pinch of stevia or a dollop of agave nectar if to make it more palatable at first. Using frozen fruit makes for a thicker consistency, fresh fruit will make for a more watery consistency. What type of greens to use? My favorites are parsley, swiss chard (stems removed), and spinach.

My current favorites:

Banana Strawberry Greenshake:

Makes 1-2 servings

Put all of the below in the blender until desired consistency is reached:

1-2 bananas, fresh or frozen (not a low glycemic fruit but good to use at first because of sweetness)
1c. strawberries, fresh or frozen
Very generous handful of spinach OR romaine
1-2 cups water
Pinch of stevia  (optional)

Blue-Purple Smoothie

Makes 1-2 servings

Put all of the below in the blender until desired consistency is reached:

Frozen or fresh blueberries (1-2 cups)
Spinach-big bunch
1-2 c water
Pinch of stevia (optional)
