Green Smoothies

Green Smoothies

I am convinced that my daily green smoothie habit helped me improve my blood sugar control throughout the day, helped me shed a few unwanted pounds, and improved my digestion. To learn more about the positive impacts of green smoothies, go the founder of the Green Smoothie Movement’s web site: www.greenforlife.com.

There are some really creative green smoothie recipes out there that include things like herbs, acai juice, hemp protein powder, etc. I like to keep things simple. I fill up my vita-mix blender with 1-2 cups water, add some green leafy veggies, 1-3 kinds of fruit, and voila breakfast is solved. They taste much more like fruit than greens. You can add a pinch of stevia or a dollop of agave nectar if to make it more palatable at first. Using frozen fruit makes for a thicker consistency, fresh fruit will make for a more watery consistency.

My current favorites:

Banana Strawberry Greenshake:

Makes 1-2 servings

Put all of the below in the blender until desired consistency is reached:

1-2 bananas, fresh or frozen
1c. strawberries, fresh or frozen
Very general handful of spinach OR romaine
1-2 cups water
Pinch of stevia or agave (optional)
Blue-Purple Smoothie

Makes 1-2 servings

Put all of the below in the blender until desired consistency is reached:

Frozen or fresh mixed berries (1-2 cups)
Spinach-big bunch
1-2 c water
Pinch of stevia (optional)
