Leaky Gut, Detox, and Green Smoothies (plus awesome recipes!)
I am doing a 6 week detox diet with The Raw Divas to clear up some lingering leaky gut symptoms I have. As part of the detox I recently ate exclusively green smoothies and blended veggie-based soups made in my vita-mix blender for 2 whole days. I must admit I was not perfect, and nibbled on some fruit and raw veggies. I thought I would feel super deprived not ‘eating’ and chewing. But let me tell ya my energy and mood those 2 days were awesome! My body did not have to expend energy on digestion as the vita-mix ‘pre-digests’ the food as it breaks the cell walls. All my energy got to go to healing and enjoying life.
The 2 days of blended food also got my digestion back on the right track after over-indulging on some almond flour based baked goods.I had no problem getting in enough calories, fats, carbs, and proteins because I added in things like Chia Seeds to my smoothies and Avocado to my soups. I even recorded my nutrient intake on Fit Day to make sure I was getting in all the good stuff I need to be healthy and repair my body.
I highly recommend trying out an all green smoothie day and seeing how it goes! Or just challenge yourself to having a green smoothie every morning, first thing before the coffee. Your body will thank you and your pants might even become loser after a short period of time.
Can’t get over the green color? Here is a tip I just got from a client: tell yourself (or your spouse who won’t go near the green drink) that it is green because there is kiwi in it. Then after they realize it just tastes like a fruit smoothie, you can tell them there is spinach in it.
