Blog Find: Feeding Kids with Food Allergies
It breaks my heart that so many children (and their parents) have undiagnosed food intolerances. Many little ones out there are suffering because their parent are either unaware or unwilling to face that food could be the cause of their child’s emotional outbursts, learning disabilities, fussy eating habits, weight problem, attention deficit issues, rashes, or sinus problems. It is much simple to give a child a pill than change their diet.
Many parents of kids with gluten-intolerance also have to deal with the fact that their kids aren’t just intolerant to gluten, but many other things such as casein, peanuts, corn, soy, and sometimes certain fruits and veggies. This can be due to many factors, such as leaky gut syndrome and/or adrenal problems. Getting any kid to eat healthy is a challenge. But how do you get a kid to eat healthy when they can’t eat the ’healthy’, convenient fallback foodst: peanut butter sandwiches, string cheese, canned chicken noodle soup, etc. How do you deal with birthday parties, vacations, school lunches?
Thank goodness that these courageous moms and dads of food intolerant kids are sharing their struggles and triumphs through blogging. Their stories are full of inspiration, great tips on how to raise healthy kids, and always lots of humor. For example, Trish at Funky Food Allergies is dealing with raising a child who is intolerant to Wheat-gluten, Soy,Corn, Dairy, Casein, Lactose, Peanuts, or Eggs. Not only does she have great recipe ideas with beautiful pics, but she posts uplifting and honest snippet about navigating daily life with a child who has many food intolerances.
